About Us

The ‘Green Israel Forum’ Organization was established in 2011 by a young group of people who graduated from IDF special units. Throughout their army service, they encountered many environmental issues all over the country and became aware of the significant challenges the state authorities face when dealing with these issues.

The organization was founded in memory of David Ach z”l, a Shayetet 13 fighter, who died while diving in the waters of the Kishon River.

Gilad Ach – David’s brother – together with other volunteers, decided to investigate and document the pollution of the river, which was being caused primarily by factories’ unregulated discharge of chemical waste.

We presented the investigation findings – which were put together by members of the organization – in various committees, attempting to impose some accountability on the polluting corporations. Nevertheless, the committees dismissed the numerous claims because we had insufficient proof of a causal link between the pollution in the Kishon River and cancer.

Following this - and out of an understanding that unregulated and unmonitored enormous corporations cause much of the pollution in Israel - we established the ‘Green Israel Forum’ organization. Green Israel Forum was designed to document, monitor, and expose violations in environmental law – particularly in cases that the State of Israel fails to deal adequately with the problem on its own – and to generate for our children a healthier and cleaner future.

We at the ‘Forum’ document and gather intelligence about polluting institutions that knowingly break the law and constantly cause damage to the natural world.

Our activities more than once have encountered resistance from economic interest groups that put our employees and volunteers at risk. But our sense of purpose, our ambition to protect the environment in Israel, still motivates us, and in the face of all the difficulties and challenges, we will carry on undeterred.

We at the ‘Green Israel Forum’ have a legal department that assists us with implementing the research and the intelligence reports of field personnel. They initiate legal procedures that eventually force polluters to conduct themselves more responsibly and stop destroying the environment. Additionally, we are endeavoring to improve the performance of law enforcement agencies, hoping that they will take more effective measures in the wake of the extent and severity of the phenomenon of pollution of the State of Israel’s natural resources.
